I was recently listening to an Elevation Worship song called “More than Able”. Nestled toward the end of the song there is a bridge that is truly resonating in my spirit. The bridge states “He’s not done with me yet, He’s not done with my yet, there’s so much more to my story, He’s not done with me yet.” How encouraging! I thought my story was “they lived happily ever after” until the love of my life died. I thought my story was ministry and worship in the church I’ve loved for many years, until my season there was over. I thought I knew where my story was going until I had plot twists and surprise turns in my life. I’ve said “I didn’t see that one coming” numerous times recently.
Life isn’t as predictable as a Hallmark movie. They all have the same actors, same plot, same ending. Spoiler alerts are not necessary as they always live happily ever after on a ranch, farm or Christmas town.
In the Bible there are countless stories of people who thought their story was over until God gave a divine plot twist. How about Abraham and Sarah? Talk about a “I didn’t see that one coming” ending. At 90 Sarah gave birth to Issac. Granted God had told them this was going to happen, but it was 25 years before they saw the fulfillment of the promise. How about Joesph? From favorite son, to sold into slavery, then a time in prison (for something he didn’t even do) and then ending up second in command. His life story would make an exciting blockbuster movie. with so many plot twists and cliff hangers.
I don’t know why we think our lives should be simple, cut and dry like a boring Hallmark movie. It is during these unexpected seasons in your life you develop character and grow faith. Personally, I feel I’m at a cliff hanger moment. I’m staying tuned to see how it all plays out. But here’s your spoiler alert: “For I KNOW the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV) God KNOWS the plans (which is a good thing, since I’m clueless). His plans are good and include prospering you and giving you hope. He knows how it’s all going to play out. We just need to trust Him and stay “tuned” into Him.
If you are struggling with your direction and purpose I want you to remember Jeremiah 29:11. Amidst the chaos and confusion God knows the ending. He hasn’t canceled your season, the next episode is on the horizon. Grab some popcorn and enjoy the show. There are exciting chapters ahead. He’s still writing your story and the finale will be GREAT. Let Him direct your story and your steps- He’s not done with you yet- enjoy the story.
